Sendagi, a downtown with great writers
From Sendagi to Yanaka, Nezu area is Tokyo's
downtown. These places remains with belle époque atmosphere
due to the reason, area get left behind of a large scale development
exceptionally being in the middle of Tokyo.
In this area, neighboring University of
Tokyo and the great writers of Meiji Era resided. Such as Soseki
Natsume who wrote "I
Am a Cat (Wagahaiwa Nekodearu) " and the "Kokoro" (1867-1916),
Ougai Mori who is called the great writer on a par with Soseki
Natsume and who wrote the "Maihime" and the "Sansho-Dayu" (1862-1922),
Yasunari Kawabata who wrote "The Dancing Girl of Izu (Izu
no odoriko)" and "Snow Country (Yukiguni)" by
the first Nobel Prize for literature winner as Japanese (1899-1972),
a poetical works "Jashumon", and a book of nursery
rhymes "Karatachi no hana" Hakushuu Kitahara
(1885-1942), and Koutarou Takamura, known for poetical works "Doutei" and "Chieko's
sky (Chiekosho)" by the engraver and a poet.
